China to See More A380 Flights This Year
China will see more of Airbus' A380 superjumbo this year as German airline Lufthansa becomes the first European airline to make regular flights to Beijing with the world's biggest passenger aircraft.

The airline's Beijing office announced on Apr. 29 that the company will provide regular flight services with the superjumbo for the Frankfurt-Beijing route from Aug. 25 this year.

Lufthansa will be the second international carrier to fly the A380 to China. Emirates, the A380's largest buyer, announced plans in March to deploy the superjumbo on its daily flight to China from Aug. 1.

According to the plan, Lufthansa will fly the A380 from Frankfurt to Beijing three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flights will be increased to daily at the end of October when the fourth A380 joins its fleet.

Passengers can already start booking flights on the A380 with Lufthansa, the company said.

Chinese domestic carriers are also planning superjumbo flights, with China Southern Airlines -- the nation's largest airline company by fleet-size -- having ordered five A380 superjumbos from aircraft manufacturer Airbus. China Southern Airlines will take delivery of the aircraft from 2011.
